Mt. Sherman – 14,036’

07-12-2008

Closest town: Fairplay, CO

Back for our second attempt, we arrived at the trailhead about 8:30 am on a warm (50 degree) summer morning. My sister Marian and her friend Vicky joined us. There were a bunch of people on the mountain that day, as can be seen in the photos. Most of the trail had surfaced through the snow and there was only one crossing. Otherwise, it was a perfect day and a great trip. The wind was calm for the most part and no bad weather moved in. Lilly and Nathaniel summited their first peak and I was so proud of them. It took a bunch of coaxing to get them up there, but they did appreciate the payoff. We signed the register and had a snack. Lilly was quite tired and started to get a headache due to the altitude, but she felt better as we descended. Nathaniel was strong the entire time. Marian and Vicky went ahead of us as our pace was quite a bit slower. We met up with Marian and Vicky back at our vehicles and had lunch in Fairplay before parting ways.
